Sony India has announced a new pair of wireless earbuds. The WI-C100, designed in the neckband style but with a single connecting wire, enters the budget segment of the wireless personal audio gear category. The device aims to provide a surround sound experience for those on a tight budget who want to buy wireless earbuds. As a result, while it lacks the flexibility of true wireless earbuds, it does include a slew of features typically found in more expensive earbuds.

Sony WI-C100: Price, Availability

Starting today, the Sony WI-C100 is available at all Sony retailers  in India, both online and offline. While the earbuds have an MRP of Rs 2,790, Sony is currently offering them at an introductory price of Rs 1,699 across all channels.

Key Features

The Sony WI-C100 earbuds are powered by 9mm dynamic drivers, which is fairly standard in this segment of audio products. On paper, it provides the full sonic spectrum in its frequency range, covering all audible frequencies.

Sony advertises a "well balanced" sound signature as one of the WI-key C100's features, implying that the bass delivery of the earbuds has been balanced in comparison to the mids and highs.

The Sony WI-C100 is Dolby Atmos certified, and it also includes Sony's proprietary 360 Reality Audio enhancement feature, which can be activated via the company's smartphone app, Headphones Connect. The app will also provide users with a custom equalizer interface to help them balance the sound output.

However, it should be noted that 360 Reality Audio only works with a limited number of music streaming apps, none of which are household names. Sony's Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), a proprietary audio upscaling algorithm, is also used in the earbuds to convert standard or low-resolution audio files to sound like high-fidelity ones.

Other notable features of the Sony WI-C100 include 25-hour battery life and quick charging. According to Sony, a 10-minute charge will provide users with up to 60 minutes of listening time. Sony also includes an in-line microphone for hands-free calling, as well as a remote control for volume, playback, and calls. It also has an IPX4 rating for durability when used during workouts.
