On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India's 5th generation mobile network or 5G services at the 6th India Mobile Congress in New Delhi. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune are among the 13 cities where the 5G network is currently being launched. These will be followed by a gradual expansion to other cities and towns over the next few years.

The Prime Minister went on a tour of the various showcases of 5G technology demonstrations held by various telecom companies such as Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Qualcomm, and even startups. He demonstrated the Jio AR Glasses as well as how 5G can be used to remotely control a car in Sweden from the event grounds at Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

Airtel 5G services will be available in India today. Sunil Mittal announced that Airtel 5G will launch in eight cities. While KM Birla has confirmed that Vodafone Idea's 5G launch will take place "soon."

5G Special Use Cases

The various use cases of the new fast network were discussed and proved at the IMC 2022. To begin, agriculture is a major draw, as real-time data transmission will allow IoT/sensors/video/watering devices to be controlled remotely. Precision livestock monitoring, pest control, and aquaculture are now possible.

The health sector will benefit from real-time vital parameters of patients, as well as quick access to multimedia content for reference. Aside from that, Augmented Reality and connected classrooms in rural areas will provide a significant boost to the education sector. Aside from these, there are banking, logistics, and other segments.

Some of the new technologies being proved at the 6th India Mobile Congress show how various companies intend to use 5G technology. FWA is one of these, and it is used to provide high-speed broadband connectivity in rural areas.

Jio is demonstrating how its Smart AR Glasses will provide people with access to Metaverse, AR, and VR, which will support smart classrooms, self-learning, and a variety of other areas once 5G technology is available.
