Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Movie Review

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Movie Review

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is all set to hit screens this 06 May 2022. The film advances the Marvel saga by introducing new characters and revisiting some old ones. But, will this new film follow in the footsteps of previous MCU films, or will it offer a fresh perspective with new superheroes to propel the story forward?

DOCTOR STRANGE INTHE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS follows Dr. Stephen Strange as he casts a forbidden spell to erase Spider-identity Man from people's minds a few months after the events of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME [2021]. However, things quickly spiral out of control when the spell opens a portal to the multiverse.

Strange is left to deal with the consequences of alternate versions of different characters being able to travel between timelines and universes. Things come to a head, however, when an alternate version of himself poses the greatest threat to humanity. Will Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff's combined forces be enough to save this reality, or will they be overwhelmed? This is the rest of the film.

The viewer is informed right away that, unlike previous MCU films, DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS will feature darker characters and on-screen preceding. So buckle up and prepare for a wild ride.

The film begins with a basic introduction to the main characters of Doctor Strange aka Stephen Strange, America Chavez aka Scarlet Witch, and Wanda Maximof aka Scarlet Witch. Once established, viewers are introduced to the multiverse and what has occurred since the events of Spider-Man.

The film begins slowly, but the pace picks up near the intermission. Despite this, there are several instances where the viewer is disconnected, making the on-screen visuals a side effect. These incidents serve as significant detriments to the film. Following the intermission, DOCTOR STRANGE INTHE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS manages to salvage the situation, with more action and a faster pace, recapturing the audience's attention.

Unfortunately, things go downhill again near the end, with certain sequences appearing overly drawn out. A better edit could have saved the situation and cut a few minutes off the overall runtime. In terms of what to expect, DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS has some good moments, clap-worthy sequences, and jump scares that will get the viewer started.

In terms of performances, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange has been excellent, as has Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximof. Especially since she is prominently featured. Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez has performed admirably; despite appearing underutilized, she manages to shine in her limited role. In terms of the others, each has performed admirably in their assigned roles. Rachel McAdams has a much more substantial role than in the previous DOCTOR STRANGE film.

The film's director, Sam Rami, has done an excellent job. Despite the difficulty of incorporating multiple realities and story versions into a single linear plot, he has done an excellent job of storytelling. Rami ensures that the film is easy to watch by interspersing dark and heavy moments with humor and light-hearted banter.

For MCU fans, DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS contains a number of Easter eggs and callbacks to both films and comic series that come as a pleasant surprise. A special mention should be made of the background score.

The thrilling audio score assists Rami in delivering a visual treat. Danny Elfman had done an excellent job with the climax, with well-modulated highs and crescendos that build up. A crucial sequence involving musical instruments with an audio track that precisely follows the on-screen happenings must be mentioned; both Rami and Elfman have done an excellent job of coordinating.

John Mathieson has also done an excellent job with the cinematography, which depicts the visuals created by Michael Waldron, who adapted Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's works from the comics. While the comics would obviously include more, Waldron has covered everything important for future films.

Overall, DOCTOR STRANGE INTHE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS is a must-see film. The film is gripping, visually stunning, dark yet humorous, and it takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride. For Marvel fans, this film serves as a preview of what to expect from future MCU releases.

However, the long-drawn sequences and pacing issues do a significant amount of damage to the viewer's interest. The film will do well at the box office, especially with such a long run. However, it is unlikely to outperform the recently released SPIDER-MAN film in terms of box office.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' official trailer, which was released during Super Bowl LVI, revealed how surreal and mind-blowing the film will be.

The teaser begins with a monologue from Stephen Strange, who is plagued by the same dream every night following the events of No Way Home, and quickly delves into the film's unusual and genre-bending elements.

We learn that the film will feature even more Doctor Strange variations, that Wanda/Scarlet Witch will be the main antagonist, and that the Multiverse of Madness will incorporate elements from Fox's X-Men universe and Marvel's animated anthology TV show What If...? into the MCU.

We knew What If...? would play a role because of Evil Doctor Strange's appearance in the first teaser. While the X-Men were rumored to appear, the trailer confirms that Patrick Stewart's Professor X will be among the ensemble cast.

There are more surprises and Easter eggs in the trailer, so read our trailer breakdown for more information. Meanwhile, in late December, the first teaser for the film was released:
