This Oppo Find X5 Pro review could be the answer if you're looking for one of the best phones of the year. It is, without a doubt, a flagship smartphone.

Oppo has made a name for itself in recent years by producing some of the best Android phones and accompanying technology. Indeed, the Oppo Find X3 Pro received a coveted five-star rating in its 91 reviews due to how good it was in almost every category, including a killer camera, powerful performance, and swanky design.

Because the Oppo Find X4 was replaced by the Oppo Find N foldable phone, which was only available in China, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is their new top-of-the-line handset for 2022.

Could it compete with other flagships this year, such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra? You've come to the right place.

OPPO FIND X5 PRO REVIEW: DESIGN AND DISPLAY

If you want a phone that looks a little more refined than the rest, the Oppo Find X5 Pro might be what you're looking for; it screams sophistication.

The design isn't all that different from its predecessor, but it's now made of reflective ceramic, giving it even more class than before. It's available in black or white.

It feels as good as it looks, thanks to the soft curves around the edges. The camera notch on the back is also smooth and integrated into the back of the device, curving upwards from the surface to give you a more natural indent to sit your finger in when taking photos - it also means you're less likely to accidentally block one of the lenses.

The only significant flaw in the design, in my opinion, is all of the printed information across the back, which is far too visible and somewhat detracts from the device's elegant aesthetics. You will also be plagued by fingerprint marks on the back of the phone, but you can simply wipe them away, and this is easily solved by the included protective case.

You should be able to use the Oppo Find X5 Pro anywhere, even in the rain, thanks to its IP68 water and dust resistance.

The phone's 6.7-inch AMOLED screen wraps around the edges and has a QHD+ (3216 1440p) resolution, 1.07 billion colours, and a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. Colors pop and words are crystal clear, so you'll be able to see everything you need to see with accuracy and vibrancy whether you're online shopping, photo editing, or watching Netflix.

The screen is large enough to use comfortably without making the phone feel clunky and difficult to hold - it measures 163.7 x 73.9 x 8.5mm and weighs 218g, so while those with very small hands may struggle, most people will not.

The screen on the Oppo Find X5 Pro is excellent for mobile gaming, especially given the 120Hz refresh rate, which makes scrolling and swiping feel smooth and effortless. The only drawback is that, despite the effectiveness of its automatic brightness, the glossy display suffers from a fair amount of glare.

To unlock the phone, you can use a pin, password, fingerprint, or facial recognition. The in-display fingerprint sensor is my preferred security measure because it is quick and reliable.

OPPO FIND X5 PRO REVIEW: CAMERA SYSTEM

The rear camera system consists of three lenses: a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 13MP telephoto camera, while the front camera is a 32MP selfie camera. Oppo and Hasselblad collaborated on the development of the camera software found on this phone.

I was fortunate enough to be in Barcelona when the camera system was tested, and the results were spectacular. You can see some of the photos I took down below.

The camera can pick up colours in such a way that you can see every shade of the sunset, and the detail in the clouds above is superb. The photos have a dynamic and energetic feel to them without being unrealistic or exaggerated.

There are numerous camera modes to experiment with, including a Pro mode, Pano mode, High Res mode, and a 50MP setting to improve the amount of detail in the shot.

Oppo has chosen to focus on stable 4K video and low light shots, rather than telephoto zoom, and you'll get up to 20x zoom here, which is a long way off the 100x zoom on the best Samsung phones. Nonetheless, the zoomed-in shots are quite good, and unlike many other handsets, they are also usable.

Another area where this camera excels is low-light photography. It can boost the image's colours and brighten the scene, allowing you to take the same quality photo regardless of the time of day.

Video footage can be recorded in resolutions as high as 4K, with options for slow-motion and zooming while recording, as well as Ultra Night Video. The footage came out looking sharp and steady, which will no doubt please content creators and avid social media users alike.

OPPO FIND X5 PRO REVIEW: PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY

This has all the makings of a powerful piece of kit, running on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, an Adreno 730 GPU, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. When you use it, it certainly feels that way; apps open almost instantly, and games load almost instantly. The Oppo Find X5 Pro makes everything feel quick and easy, but there's no MicroSD card slot to expand storage.

I ran the Geekbench 5 benchmarking test to compare it to other phones on the market. It achieved single-core scores of 977 and multi-core scores of 3,395 in comparison to other flagships this year such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and popular devices from last year such as the OnePlus 9 Pro. It even outperforms some devices, such as the Googe Pixel 6 Pro.

The Oppo Find X5 Pro, as expected, supports both Wi-Fi 6 and 5G, allowing you to take advantage of lightning-fast connectivity wherever it is available.

When it comes to the battery, it has two series-connected cells with a capacity of 5,000mAh. I was able to use this handset for more than a day, possibly even two days before it needed to be recharged. To put it through its paces, I turned up the brightness to maximum and played a local video for two hours. The battery level only dropped by 10% during that time, so it would have lasted about 20 hours in total, which is massive by any standard and certainly one of the best results I've ever seen.

It only took about 38 minutes to charge the battery from empty to 100 percent using the included 80W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge - that's really impressive and means you won't have to wait around for it to charge before leaving the house. If you have a compatible charger, you can also charge the Oppo Find X5 Pro wirelessly.

ColorOS 12.1 sets the tone; it is based on Android 12, and it is one of the better Android skins available. It's not as sharp as Samsung's One UI, but it's not far off either. It's full of colour, with simple fonts and intuitive navigation, and it's very easy to get used to, whether you use buttons or gestures to navigate it.

OPPO FIND X5 PRO REVIEW: VERDICT

I believe it is safe to say that the Oppo Find X5 Pro is out to wow. While the price tag may not be for everyone, it's difficult to argue against because everything about this phone feels premium, whether it's the curved ceramic design, the sophisticated camera system, the battery life that lasts for days, or its ultra-fast performance and fast charging.

So, aside from the price, what are the drawbacks? There aren't many, and none of them are major dealbreakers. If you have small hands, this may feel like a giant to you, and if you tend to use up a lot of your phone storage quickly, you may be put off by the fact that there is no way to expand it using a MicroSD card, though not many flagships do now. Another reason you might not like it is that the interface isn't as sleek as stock Android, but even so, you'll get used to Color OS quickly. Overall, the Oppo Find X5 Pro is a fantastic piece of kit that is up to date in almost every aspect - it's difficult not to love it.
