Apple iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max Launched

Apple has just announced the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max flagship smartphones, as well as two other iPhone 14 series devices, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. As previously speculated, Apple has dropped the Mini version this time around.

The iPhone 14 Plus is a new (reintroduced) model in the lineup. Unlike in previous years, Apple has not upgraded the SoCs in all of the new iPhones this time. Because the standard iPhone 14 (and 14 Plus) uses the last-generation A15 Bionic chip, all eyes and attention has shifted to the Pro models.

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the most recent Pro models, succeeding the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, respectively. The Pro models include a new Bionic chipset, new camera features, improved battery life, and an overall improvement over the previous generation devices. Let's take a closer look at the Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Always on Display

Apple has finally added the long-awaited Always on Display feature to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max devices. The new Lock screen in iOS 16 will be even more useful with this addition, displaying the time, widgets, and Live Activities at a glance.

New A16 Bionic Chip with new Display Engine

Apple claims that this is the fastest SoC on any smartphone available today. The A16 Bionic is a six-core processor that is up to 40% faster than its competitors. It is made up of two Performace cores and four efficiency cores. For graphics-intensive games and apps, the A16 Bionic is paired with a 5-core GPU with 50% more memory bandwidth. This chip is built on a 4nm process and is capable of handling computational photography features with ease.

No SIM Tray for the US

Apple is going 100% eSIM in the United States, as the SIM trays for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have been removed.

Dynamic Island

Apple's new design, Dynamic Island, introduces a more intuitive way to use the iPhone. In other words, this is a fancy name for a notch that does more than you might expect. Apple intends for Dynamic Island to provide an interactive user experience, which Apple's own apps and services, as well as many other third-party apps, can take advantage of. Continuous background activities such as Maps, Music, or a timer remain visible and interactive, and third-party apps in iOS 16 that provide information such as sports scores and ride-sharing with Live Activities can benefit from Dynamic Island.

New 48MP Camera setup

One of the most noticeable upgrades is a 48MP main camera on the back. The 48MP camera with a quad-pixel sensor adapts to the image being captured and includes sensor-shift optical image stabilization of the second generation. The quad-pixel sensor also allows for a 2x Telephoto mode, which uses the sensor's middle 12 megapixels for full-resolution photos and 4K videos with no digital zoom. It also benefits professional workflows by optimizing for detail in ProRAW.
